To the Editor,
I am writing in support of Jim Dugan’s candidacy for the Scarsdale Board of Education. Jim was my neighbor in the Overhill neighborhood for 10 years, and in addition to many informal conversations on diverse topics, I got to know him during the several years we worked together on the Overhill Neighborhood Association Board of Directors, and during the time we overlapped on the Citizens Nominating Committee. I grew to appreciate the remarkable consistency and levelheadedness that Jim brought to every interaction, whether a pleasant social conversation or one of the less pleasant, contentious issues that faced Overhill as a neighborhood abutting the village center.
Although Jim is quite articulate and well spoken, he characteristically spends more time listening than talking. When he does speak it is always to the point and succinct, likely reflecting his litigator skills. While I know only some of his views on the specific issues that he would confront on the board, I do know he is a passionate supporter of Scarsdale Schools and their educational values, and would champion them in the best possible way. He is directly invested in the school system through his three daughters, as well as through the Coalition for Scarsdale Schools, of which he is a co-founder.
As a graduate and continuing supporter of Scarsdale Schools, I remain a Scarsdale resident because of people like Jim, 15 years after my youngest child’s graduation (and 54 years after my own) from SHS. I look forward to Jim’s membership on the school board.
